A packed room of residents from Alwoodley started a dialogue about tackling climate change with Councillor Katie Dye on Wednesday at the St Paul the Apostle R C Church.
Organised by Alwoodley 2030: Climate Action Hub, the event enabled more than 40 people to hear directly from the Chair of Leeds City Council’s Climate Emergency Advisory Committee.
Councillor Dye presented her answers to a series of nine questions sent to her in advance which came from residents when they signed up for the event. The questions included topics such as climate delay, funding opportunities, support for partnerships, and general advice for community projects.
Alwoodley 2030 has three particularly active groups that organise on the topics of low carbon homes, community energy and sustainable transport.

After enjoying a shared meal and hearing Councillor Dye’s presentation, attendees at the event had opportunity to ask further questions and make comments on the talk. The final part of the event allowed people to talk at the different tables about their ideas, lingering questions and actions that they’d like to take forward.
Alwoodley 2030’s next event takes place 6-7.30pm on Tuesday 19 November 2024 and focuses on the state of nature in Yorkshire. It will feature Rachael Bice, CEO of Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and take place at St Barnabas Church, Alwoodley. You can register for the next event here.
