The challenge of maintaining the pitch, disrupted travel to away games, bills for the clubhouse and bar ... Sports clubs are all too familiar with the impact of climate on their daily operations.
But planning and taking climate action could actually help clubs save money, as well as building extra connections with their communities and potentially bringing in new players.
That's why several third-sector organisations in West Yorkshire have teamed up to offer sports clubs a free, specially tailored training session, entitled "How to create a climate action plan".

The free session, with refreshments provided, will cover:
Why it’s important to take action.
Where our main environmental impacts are - such as energy, travel and waste.
Things we can do to limit those impacts and make a positive difference in our communities, too
Wider benefits of taking action - such as lowering your energy bills and getting more people involved in your activities.
Sources of further support and funding
It is intended for anyone involved in running or managing a sports club or community organisation that is:
Involved in delivering any type of community sport/physical activity (can be affiliated or not affiliated to a National Governing Body)
Supporting your local community as an un/constituted group, charity, social enterprise, or community benefit society
Generating an income of up to £500k
This workshop will be delivered by Rob Greenland from The Social Business. Rob has worked with social enterprises and third-sector organisations for over 25 years, specialising in offering support around environmental issues and climate action.
He co-founded Zero Waste Leeds in 2018, and helped set up a number of projects with social and environmental impacts, including Leeds School Uniform Exchange. Rob has also worked with local running clubs on how to reduce their environmental impact.
When not at work, Rob’s a keen runner - and has witnessed first-hand how extreme weather has had an impact on the races he likes to compete in.
Please follow the links below for full details and to book a place on your preferred session. (Session content will be the same throughout, so attend the one most convenient for you.)
