About Horsforth Climate Action:
Welcome to Horsforth Climate Action! We are a group of local volunteers from the Horsforth community with a shared vision to make Horsforth, Leeds, Yorkshire, the UK, and the world a greener, more sustainable, and equitable place.
Our aim is to promote community-wide action to tackle climate change and make a transition to a zero-carbon, nature-friendly and socially-just community for Horsforth & Leeds.
We’re thrilled to be one of the eight Community Hubs scattered across Leeds, supported by Climate Action Leeds and generously funded by the Community Lottery Fund. We have big ideas and need to raise more funds to make them a reality.
So far, we’ve made a difference in Horsforth by:
- Setting up a vibrant monthly repair café, meaning that less waste goes to landfill.
- Established a local community composting site
- Relaxed mowing established on 2 recreation grounds
- Enhanced with wildflower planting.
- Held successful monthly engagement events raising awareness of how personal individual action can make a difference

On our wish list for the future:
- Develop an energy group, initially to support people in establishing the energy efficiency of their homes, how they can improve this and signposting to expertise.
- Creating a bike repair café
- Establish a regular clothing exchange.
- Work effectively with other local community groups and businesses to widen our reach, support systems and create movement for change.
This is where we need your help!
The role:
We are looking for a volunteer to help us write applications to charitable trusts, of up to approximately £20k.

What do we need?
We need our fundraising volunteer to submit an application each month, using information from our shortlist of potential funders. We think this might take approximately 5 hours a month, but we can be flexible about this time commitment.
In addition, we’d like you to attend a steering group meeting every other month (2 hours, 6-8pm in person in Horsforth). We’d pay your travel expenses using public transport/mileage rate (parking/secure bike rack is available).
Location:
This role will be mainly remote - but with some in-person meetings.
About you.
You will bring to this role:
- a commitment to local climate action
- good written skills
- access to your own laptop and a reliable internet connection
- the skills to work well with other fundraising volunteers, staff and steering group members - as well as on your own.
